Thank you for your thorough research. It is a delight to read. Please update us on your friend's health and let us know if she is improving!

Thank you so much for all your research! Per your brief nods to viruses and environmental toxins:

After a wild experience with acute pesticide poisoning I dove into classes and books and research on environmental health, and my theory is that it’s primarily environmental toxins driving the tissue damage in “auto immune” diseases and the body trying to mop up the mess of toxin damaged tissues… a clean up mess in our everyday chemical soup that our biology isn’t that well equipped for. (I also have an old autoimmune diagnoses; not Graves.) I think what we call autoimmune is tied somehow to that environmental toxin accumulation and cleanup as well as resulting mitochondria and cell damage by the toxin exposure and that cleanup. It’s a travesty to me that we don’t have more testing for a wide array of environmental toxins in tissue samples of diseased organs.

I don’t know much about virology, but often think of a friend in the early 00’s who had major health issues. A specialist she worked with, who was quite out there at the time, had her on some intense detox protocols because he told her lyme and coinfections (which she had had for almost 30 years ) can accumulate heavy metals in the body. (shrug? Did they make them, or are they there to take advantage of the accumulated toxins and the damaged immune system because of the toxins? I don’t know. ) I know that many viruses can use toxic metals in place of zinc and many are not damaged by the presence of heavy metals (like bacteriophages). The word “many” there is possible generous. Point being that viruses could use heavy metal toxic areas of the body both because of the metals and the lowered human immune response from the metals… indicating a high rate of infection in autoimmune tissues, when the underlying issue could still be environmental toxins.

Now I’m rambling. All that to ask, what do you know about environmental toxins and “auto immunity?”
