Thank you for this article! It really put everything else you write about into context and also helped me understand Dr Peat's approach, which has become so muddled by others that I've found it hard to know how to use his knowledge.
Each time I take some time off to read your articles, so much interesting information. Thank you. I've seen you mention additional things besides diet, like red light therapy - it would be great at some point if you would do a post on this one, there is so much contradictory info on it.
Loge the article! The only thing I find a bit confusing I guess is the heartbeat. I feel like there is quite a lot of data that the people who live very long for example Norwegians, have a low resting heart rate.
Hey Bella, good question! I guess my question would be - are the low resting heart rates measured in Norwegians who are already old? If that's the case, we should be asking "are they old because their heart rates are low?" or "are their heart rates low because they're old?" I believe the latter is the case. For example, it was assumed that a high TSH is a good thing because many centenarians have high TSH, but the fault in the thinking was assuming that they're 100 because their TSH is high, without considering the reverse causation: Their TSH is high because they're 100. Their counterparts who had an even higher TSH...never made it to 100. :)
Very interesting! You talk a lot about the importance of B vitamins and I’ve been looking to find a brand similar to the ones your recommend that also ship to US. Have you heard of Zuma co Enzyme B complex that uses the TTFD version of thiamine?
Hey Laura, I just took a look at the one from Zuma and I feel like the brand is not super transparent about the other forms of B Vitamins in the complex (for example, the forms of B6 or B12 are not specified), and is also using other forms that are less desirable. For example niacin instead of niacinamide. Source naturals sells thiamine pyrophosphate in a lozenge form and I think it's an okay alternative: https://www.sourcenaturals.com/products/GP1314/
